Selective Permeability of Biological Hydrogels

One main mission of my laboratory is to determine the basic principles that govern selective permeability in biological hydrogels. A microfluidic system was developed (in collaboration with Prof. Jay Han), which enables us to measure particle uptake and transport (top). With this system we have begun to identify molecular properties that distinguish particles that are rejected by, or permeate, a defined mucus barrier (bottom).
